Premier League 2019-20 - Gameweek 2: Chelsea vs Leicester City: Tammy Abraham or Olivier Giroud. Who should start?

There is a three way battle for the position of striker at Chelsea. Let's have a look at the options the club has.

Tammy Abraham is a talented striker. He hit the post within 4 minutes on his debut against Manchester United and won a penalty against Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup. He has the finishing and work rate that Chelsea needs. He had an excellent loan spell at Aston Villa. But, he lacks experience at the top level.

Olivier Giroud is a proven striker with tons of experience. He will score important goals for you, as he did last season in the Europa League. But more importantly, he will hold up the play and bring others into the game. He scored a good goal in the UEFA Super Cup against Liverpool. But, he is not getting any younger. He can be used as a super-sub.

Let's also not forget Batshuayi, who had a mixed spell on loan at Crystal Palace. He too is fighting for the striker role. He needs to fight for his place.

It is only logical that each of them deserve a spell of at least a few games to showcase their abilities. As Abraham has proven himself in the Championship level last season, I believe that Chelsea must start with him against teams which finished outside the top 6 last season. Also, he should start majority of the home games. And they should start with Giroud for the top 6 teams and the away games, as he has the experience to grind out good performances in difficult circumstances. Batshuayi needs to first prove himself in training and should be given chance as needed.

Tammy Abraham is quite young and can only get better with experience. He should be given a run of at least half a dozen home games before we start becoming too critical of his performances.
